Item Assist terms and definitions

This page provides definitions of key terms/concepts related to Item Assist.

Additional author prompts

Allows authors to add their own instructions and information for content generation. Unlike metadata, additional author prompts are not tagged to the generated items.

Content generation

AI-creation of brand-new items, which may be MCQ, Essay, or Display.

Content refinement

AI-revision of fully or partially written items, whether by a Subject Matter Expert or by Item Assist.

Default prompt

Item Assist comes with data-based, research-based default prompts for each item type, for both content generation and content refinement. Users can choose to edit and customize these prompts for their projects. Selecting the reset button restores customized prompts back to their default state if desired.

Knowledge base

When the knowledge base is turned on, Item Assist will use only your chosen sources as references — using a research-based process known as Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG).
